Hebrews 11: 1- 16
1. FAITH INTRODUCTION
Everyone of those who were called responded in faith to that calling.
Faith is a funny thing in many ways. It comes out of nowhere and then builds into everywhere.
The best definition of faith is in Hebrews 11:1 – 3.’ Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.’
Faith gives us a deep understanding of the universe being made of what is invisible – ex nihilo – out of nothing. The visible makes known the invisible. If we look around us in George we are deeply inspired in our faith walk by this. All things were created through Him – Jesus. Human descendant of David and Spiritual empowered by God through the resurrection.
Our FAITH is clearly built on the foundation of this fact which is recorded in the history books of Josephus, a Jewish historian. Reference in Book 18, Chapter 3, 3. Now there was about this time, Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day.
2. OBEDIENCE WHICH COMES FROM FAITH.
3. COMMITMENT – A CALL TO PLEASE GOD.
Our faith is grown and nurtured by the fact that we belong to God. We function and have relationships in our church, which builds our faith, but our calling is first and foremost to belong to God.
Enoch’s belonging to God – One who pleased God taken.
Promise of reward.
4. FAITH BUILDS A HOLY FEAR.
Noah and the building of the ark.
It is very powerful when we hear the report of someone’s faith.
The power of the message is not about them but about God working through them. Faith talk is when God gets the honour and not us.
5. FAITH IMPARTS.(PASSES ON COMMUNICATES, CONVEYS) – GIVES
We need to be a people who are conveying the love of God. Not an overwhelming faith which does not meet with reality, but a sense of saying that hey this is all about God and not about me.
Abraham and Sarah because of their faith have descendants as numerous as the stars – “I am one of them and so are you so let’s just praise the Lord”.
6. FAITH MUTUALLY ENCOURAGES.
Romans 1:12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
We have to be a people who are encouraging one another in this day. These stories of the faithful keep us going. “Unbroken” the movie – The story of The film revolves around the life of USA Olympian and athlete Louis “Louie” Zamperini, portrayed by Jack O’Connell. Zamperini survived in a raft for 47 days after his bomber crash landed in the ocean during World War II, then was sent to a series of prisoner of war camps.
7. FAITH MAKES US EAGER TO KEEP GOING FOR THE LONG HAUL
Spiritual mothers and fathers who have stood the test of time.

8. FAITH KEEPS US LONGING FOR A BETTER COUNTRY.
16 Instead they were longing for a better country – a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God.
Having just gone through the voting process in South Africa and now seeing the outcome there are changes for good as we have been praying, Jesus wins and we have the victory in Christ. We need to live by faith as one’s victorious not one’s defeated. We need to empower our people to do the same. 1 Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
