Mandela Day

I want to begin this morning by praying for South Africa and I prayed it on Wednesday but just feel that I should pray it again today – Our national anthem :

Lord Bless Africa
May her glory be lifted high
Hear our petitions
Lord bless us. Us your children
Lord we ask You to protect our nation

Intervene and end all conflicts
Protect us, protect us
Protect our nation Protect South Africa
South Africa!

Ringing out from our blue heavens, from our deep seas breaking round, Over everlasting mountains where the echoing crags resound.

Sounds the call to come together and united we shall stand.
Let us live and strive for freedom in South Africa our land Amen

In the middle of the storm of COVID and the challenges of what is happening in our country, I really believe that we need to put Jesus at the centre of it all and at the centre of our lives. The focus of the next ten weeks is exactly this. We are going to explore the different real people that Jesus transformed and changed into his likeness and he called them in the time of their “before” and gave them an “after”.

Before and after pics of people transformed on the outside but this is so much more about a powerful transformation on the inside.

Introduction to the chosen(direct quotes from the Chosen team)

The Chosen put us into the story of the ordinary people who surrounded Jesus. No plastic saints here, just sinners who spent time with the one Man who understood them and would eventually die for them. These are stories of rebuke and hope, of sin and forgiveness. Yes, their story is ours. Read The Chosen and pass it along to some other struggling sinners who need to see Jesus in a new light.—DR. ERWIN LUTZER, pastor emeritus, The Moody Church, Chicago, Illinois

Read Isaiah 43:1-4 together

But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.

For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
    Cush[a] and Seba in your stead.

Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
    and because I love you,
I will give people in exchange for you,
    nations in exchange for your life.

Being chosen means:

  1. You Are Called
    Created and knit together in your mother’s womb Psalm 139
    This is a reminder to us that we were called long beofre we were born and that’s all of us. We are designed and made in the image of our Lord. We all have a before and thankfully the Lord is able to transform even the most lost human being and in doing so an entire situation.
  2. You Rest
    Do not fear for I HAVE REDEEMED YOU. This assurance means that we were heading for a direction of failure but the Lord has literally stepped in and changed our direction.Daily repentance and forgiveness and daily asking that the LORD WOULD FILL US WITH HIS SPIRIT ONCE AGAIN
  3. You Are Cherished
    You are deeply cherished by the Lord and you are summoned by name. To be cherished is of course to be loved but it is also to be summoned to do something. When you love someone or something so dearly you want to see the best for it. We are summoned into action to pray and to love the people and the country that we belong to South Africa. It’s a season to rise up and stand for what it means to be called by name. Not to choose violence or corruption but rather life and life in all it’s fullness. John 10:10
  4. You Change Course
    Changing course is a moral ethical and spiritual decision that we make through the guidance of the Holy Spirit on a daily basis. We cannot think that we will not go through tough times but the Lord promises that we will pass through this time and season.
    “When you pass through the waters,
        I will be with you;
    and when you pass through the rivers,
        they will not sweep over you.
    When you walk through the fire,
        you will not be burned;
        the flames will not set you ablaze.” Our attitude is critical at this team.
  5. You Are a Witness
    We are withnesses to the fact the Lord is our God and that there is no other. Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Overcoming by what Jesus has done for us on the cross and the word of our testimony – tell your story and bring others to faith in Jesus Christ.
  6. “Precious and honoured in my sight”

You Are Made New

You Are Established

You Are Carried
I love you
