Believe series – Who is God?

“Who is God?”

Key Question: Who is God?

Little girl at preschool says to her teacher that she wants to draw God, but her teacher says to her : “How can you draw God because we don’t know what he looks like”. She replies – “You will know what he looks like when I am finished my drawing”

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” A.W.Tozer

  1. God has revealed His existence.

There is an open visual and noisy declaration every single day that this universe that we live in is the master plan of a Creator. George is a DECLARATION – RAIN cannot be made by humans.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the

work of his hands. Psalm 19:1ff

“The fool says in his heart ‘there is no God’” Psalm 14:1; 53:1

The illustration of a cell phone.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his

eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being

understood from what has been made, so that people are without

excuse.” Romans 1:20

One of the challenges of atheism is the consequences of finally realising that every was completely clear on earth.

  1. There is only one true God.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Deut. 6:4

Elijah’s challenge (1 Kgs 18:21); 10 supreme and 370 gods and goddesses in Greek mythology Zeus being one of many.

MONOTHEISM VERSES POLYTHEISM – the Israelites were often drawn into worshipping these other gods – Baals – Canaanite deities – 1 vs 850 – Elijah and the fire and water. 1 Kings 18: 16 -40

Joshua’s declaration (Josh. 24:15) choose this day who you will serve – As for me and my household we will serve the Lord.

Muslim – God is unapproachable, Hindu multiple God’s, Buddhism – not personal but god is within.

Possessions , power the god -me is the God of most people.

“Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God,

and there is no other.” Isaiah 45:22

Is there another God or only One God – we have clarity in the scriptures that –

“There is… one God and Father of all, who is over all and through

all and in all.” Ephesians 4:4a,6 – not 2 or 3 or 300 but ONE.

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God,

and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3 – ETERNAL LIFE IS KNOWING WHO WE WORSHIP – KNOWING GOD.

The power comes from not just acknowledging this in our heads but in our hearts – A KNOWING IS A BEAUTIFUL THINGS AND LEADS IS TO WORSHIP AND SPIRITUALITY THAT MAKES SENSE.

  1. There is one God in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Does the teaching of the trinity appear in the bible- not the word.

Present at creation (Gen. 1:1‐3) Spirit hovered, and God said John 1:1 – nothing made without Jesus – by Him For Him and through it – Agent God Father Creator

Present at the incarnation of Christ (Luke 1:35) – Holy Spirit will come on you and the Mighty One will overpower you and He will be called the Son of God

Present at the baptism of Christ (Matthew 3:16‐17) – Spirit of God – dove Voice – This is my Son – Father – Father Son and Holy Spirit Present

Present at our baptism (Matthew 28:19) – They were all present at your baptism too and are part of everything that you are.

Eternally present in unity with one another (Eph. 4:4‐6) We are called like THEM into fellowship and unity and that why church unity is so critical. ONE LORD ONE FAITH ONE BAPTISM.

Many statements (1 Pet. 1:2; 2 Cor. 1:21‐22; 1 Cor. 12:4‐6) – Simple clear design in scripture to show us the picture of the Godhead. Different gifts – but same Spirit same Lord same Father.

Random chance or created by a Father deeply in love with you, a Son who shows His Grace to you through the Cross and the Holy Spirit who Fellowships with us as the Comfortor Councellor and Advocate.

The power of the ministry of the Godhead is transformational to our lives. Stand on the word of God and let’s say as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

Key Idea: I believe the God of the Bible is the only true God –

Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

A summary of the whole topic of today –

Key Verse: “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love

of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

2 Corinthians 13:14
